Out & About - Giddy Kippers

So what do you do when it's cold, raining, miserable and you not as much fun as your kids' friends? You take them to Giddy Kippers!

I know... Activity centers can be every parent's nightmare. Some of these places give very little thought to the fact the parents have and want to stay with their children; and although they do theoretically offer the service, as a parent you swallow the crappy coffee and wait only because you love your child.

Not in this one, though. Giddy Kippers is basically a big warehouse transformed into a kid's heaven. The massive climbing frame,  self-contained little football pitch, dedicated baby & toddler corner and party rooms are sure to keep your little Tasmanian devil engaged and pleased.

But that's not what I want to talk about. What is interesting is that they are adult friendly! With wireless internet, descent coffees and teas, and a good selection on the menu, Giddy Kippers is one of the most comfortable and parent welcoming kids' activity centers around. You will even get used to the screaming and the table next door talking about little Johnny's toilet habits. By the end of the session your little one will be exhausted, wet through with sweat and happy as Larry and you... will have had a couple of minutes to browse through magazines, order your shopping online or read your book. Brilliant!

If you decided to visit, take some cash with you. You can pay with a card at the entrance, but the Cafe only accepts card over a certain amount. Parking is free, so you don't need to worry, but you do need to worry about your child. They don't offer a babysitting service so while in there you child is still your responsibility. If they bang their heads with another child or get into the inevitable little scrabble playing football, you still have to sort it and keep the peace with all the other children and parents. Playground diplomacy, really.

Make sure your little treasure wears socks as they are only allowed in the climbing frame if they are wearing socks at all times. They also have a loyalty scheme where you get your card stamped every time you visit, like you do with your favourite coffee shop, and so many visits means you get in for free the next time so make sure you get your card stamped. Be wear of the holiday season. During the holidays and school breaks there is a limit of two hours for playing sessions, but any other time you can stay in there as long as you want.

So grab yourself a coffee and watch your petit have a lot of fun while you chill for a minute. A well deserved break for you and well deserved fun for your child.
