Book Review - Foreign Identity by Becca J Campbell

Wow! I can't remember the last time a book made stay up until some ungodly hour because I couldn't put it down.

SYNOPSIS
"Waking up without your memory is terrifying. Even worse when you wake up in a cell and bound by chains.

Two nameless strangers, a man and a woman, find themselves imprisoned together. With no memories of their own identities, let alone their captor and tormentor, escape is the only option. The pair faces a bizarre labyrinth of rooms and clues that confuse more than they explain.

Will the answers be enough? Will the truth bring them closer or tear them apart, and will discovering their identities finally bring them home?"

REVIEW:
There is only one way to describe Foreign Identity by Becca J. Campbell: I was hooked!!! I just couldn't let go of it. Every spare minute I had, the Kindle would come out of my bag like a pop up tent.

The story is fast paced and the prose is intense all the way through - the tension keeping you on your toes till the very end. The characters are not only likeable, but also easy to connect to. As a matter of fact, there are only really four characters in this book so, to have such a complex and weaved story like this, is quite an achievement.

I purposely didn't read pass the first paragraph of any review before reading this book, as I try not to let them tamper with my own opinion, so I had no clue as to what was going on - were they dreaming? Were they dead? Were they hallucinating? Was it aliens? - and I can usually tell exactly where the story is going by halfway through. Not with this book. And it was brilliant!

At first, I thought Foreign Identity sounded a little similar TV series Lost, then to book-turned-movie The Hunger Games, but it turned out to be something completely different. I can't say what it was because it would spoil it for you, but I can tell you this: I don't usually enjoy this type of fantasy. I've read a few books involving this phenomenon, but I wasn't actually blown away by any of them. I'm happy to say this has now changed.

Of course there were issues with it. For example, you don't get to find out why Kel was having withdraw symptoms or why their car was never found in the road - surely someone would drive by and think it odd? But you are so engrossed on finding out what happens next, that quite frankly you just don't care all that much.

Brilliantly written. I look forward to reading more by Becca J. Campbell.

  2. FANTASTIC! It seems like a simple word but it thoroughly describes this book. Becca J Campbell created a story that is as psychological as it is interesting. I loved that this couple had to work together to solve all the mysteries surrounding them. I must say I was surprised at what they found too. Easy to read and one you'll be hooked on right away! I recommend this book for your library.
